Explore the geology of Newfoundland in Minecraft using the world available here!
We are in the final stretches of building a Minecraft world with geography and geology based on the island of Newfoundland. This world was built using publicly available elevation and geology maps. The geologic map used in the creation of this world is the 1:1 million bedrock geology map of Newfoundland, found on GeoAtlas.
In this world, you can also find locations of real-life ores! Ore bodies have been placed in this world based on the mineral occurence maps also found on the GeoAtlas website. We’ve even included some information on key geologic sites around the island. Keep an eye out for any beacons or signs that detail some local geology.
Once complete, this world will be available for anyone to explore. You can travel through and across the island in the game, and learn all about our province’s geology. Newfoundland has a significant mining sector, and has some very important fossils. You can have a look at the actual geologic maps to try to find some of these features in the game! We hope this unique perspective of The Rock will teach you something new.
